EVALUATION OF INNOVATIVE TREATMENT TECHNOLOGIES FOR FREE AND COMPLEXED CYANIDE REMOVAL FROM A CHARACTERISTICALLY HAZARDOUS WASTEWATER
Abstract
A treatment process was developed to treat high cyanide (CN-) wastewater from a former elemental phosphorus facility. A mixture of oxidation and precipitation processes was required to meet the Universal Treatment Standard of 1.2 mg/L for CN prior to disposal onsite. Destruction of iron-complexed cyanide posed the greatest challenge to meeting these limits, but the process developed was able to reduce total CN concentrations by more than 99%.
