CLASSIFICATION OF DISTRIBUTION FLUSHING ZONES USING HYDRANT WATER QUALITY ANALYSIS

Abstract

In April 2005, The District of Columbia Water & Sewer Authority (DC WASA) began sampling hydrants throughout the distribution system to identify the lower water quality areas for priority flushing. To rate the relative water quality of each hydrant, WASA developed a water quality factor, calculated from results of multiple parameters. The water quality factors are categorized into tiers, which are used to prioritize the areas for unidirectional flushing. This presentation will describe the derivation of the water quality factor and how the factors are analyzed for tiering.
