Abstract
A scalping membrane bioreactor plant was proposed for City of Battle Ground (BG), WA, to treat 1.7 mgd of its sewage and send the waste activated sludge (WAS) and remaining sewage to the regional 14.95 mgd Salmon Creek Treatment Plant (SCTP) owned by Clark County, WA. Introducing BG WAS was evaluated for its impacts on SCTP, using a proprietary, ASM 2d based, steady-state whole plant model Pro2D, assisted with solids flux state point analyses and Gaigger-Roger Diagram. Introducing the WAS to SCTP's liquid stream was found to overload SCTP's secondary process and result in 0.65 to 1.05 mgd capacity decrease, depending on the solids removal assumed at SCTP's primary treatment with BG WAS loads. Trucking BG WAS to the SCTP's solids stream would result in ˜10% loading increase to anaerobic digestion and dewatering units, without triggering immediate upgrade to SCTP's solids handling processes.
