Township Irrigation Water Master Planning
Abstract
The Monroe Township Municipal Utilities Authority (Authority) provides public water and wastewater services. In the 1990's, the Authority recognized the impact of significant growth would impose on its water supplies. In 1999, the Authority adopted a policy requiring all new significant site developments use alternative water supplies for irrigation. By 2007, development needs for irrigation water and available supply reached a critical point and the Authority initiated a Town-wide master planning study for the irrigation water system. The irrigation water master plan evaluated alternatives based on the following elements: technical, financial, environmental and community outreach. Authority staff and directors assigned a value to each element. Elements of each irrigation system improvement alternative were identified. Alternatives were compared through a pairwise analysis of their elemental values. The analysis provided the Township with direction whereby improvements to the nonpotable water, potable water and sanitary sewer systems can be coordinated to meet the Township's irrigation policy.
