Abstract
Introduction Duffin Creek WPCP is jointly owned by the Regions of Durham and York and is the 2nd largest wastewater treatment plant in Ontario. The plant services two of the fastest growing regions in Canada and is currently undergoing a major capacity expansion to support that growth. The plant's management team needed access to accurate, reliable and timely data to meet the requirements of the business including: regulatory compliance, billing, planned expansion and operations. Unfortunately the management team were becoming increasingly frustrated with the level of effort and challenges associated with accessing the required data. The reasons were numerous: required data resided on several disparate databases requiring manual consolidation, data was often duplicated in several databases, the quality of the data collected was not validated and often suspect, data in finished reports was not secure, manual data collection and transfer resulted in poor quality and untimely data.
