Abstract
The refined Unity Technology, converts wastewater biosolids, sludges and manures through biological, chemical and physical processes into a value-added commercial fertilizer that fits seamlessly into the existing commercial fertilizer inventory and distribution system. The Unity Technology is a physical-chemical process, which uses exothermic chemical reaction to dry and eliminate the spontaneous combustion and explosive problems experienced by traditional sludge dryers as a result of the inorganic additions within the process. The Unity Technology utilizes standard fertilizer processes, dating back to the late 1940s that produce commercial fertilizer through exothermic chemistry. These processes are now used to sterilize pathogens, eliminate process and product odors and potentially destroy and alter endocrine disrupting compounds, and produce a new commercial inorganic/organic fertilizer (yield a stabilized product) with exceptional physical properties.The Unity process and product have been approved by the USEPA as Class A as a result of the high temperatures achieved in the inorganic additives within the exothermic reactions. The final product is fully comparable to commercial fertilizer produced in the traditional way and sold as a commodity worldwide with minimal environmental impact or agronomic application restrictions related to nutrients. Unlike traditionally manufactured fertilizer, the Unity Fertilizer contains organic matter and amino acids and recycles them back to the soil. Test studies show that Unity Fertilizer provides a significant reduction in nitrogen leaching into the groundwater and increased crop production yields for corn, rice and citrus.
