MASTER PLANNING FOR THE MWRDGC NORTH SIDE WATER RECLAMATION PLANT
Abstract
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC) has been at the forefront in the development of wastewater collection and treatment systems since the early 1900's and has continually upgraded and expanded these facilities to meet NPDES permit and water quality requirements. Because of the age and complexity of these large facilities it was evident that comprehensive planning for all of MWRDGC's major wastewater treatment plants was necessary to determine the infrastructure and process needs into the 21st century. The Master Plan for the North Side Water Reclamation Plant (NSWRP) was completed in June 2007 through a collaborative approach with MWRDGC engineering, maintenance and operations (M & O), and research and development staff along with a team of multi-discipline consultants. The Master Plan identified the major infrastructure and process needs for the planning period through Year 2040. The results of the studies also established a prioritized sequence and list of major capital projects and financial needs through Year 2026.
