Remote Measurement of Sludge Load In Rectangular Collectors
Abstract
Estimation of sludge load in rectangular collectors is critical for proper selection of the components involved in moving the sludge for subsequent treatment. However, it can be the most difficult value to determine in this type of equipment. There is a reliable method for determination of sludge load in an operational rectangular collector through the use of a remote telemetry system available on the open market. The system is minimally invasive in the collector mechanism itself and does not require the interruption of the operation of a wastewater treatment plant. It can be used in collectors of any length, width, or depth and that contain any manufacturer's equipment. When used in 2 real life situations where rectangular collectors were not operating properly, the system was easy to install, provided immediate data that was accurate, helped diagnose the problem, and contributed to cost effective solutions that were mutually beneficial to the plant operator as well as the equipment supplier.
