ESSENTIAL ASSET MANAGEMENT PROGRAM INITIATIVES: A CASE STUDY FROM HENRICO COUNTY
Abstract
The stewardship of assets that collect and treat billions of gallons of wastewater is a key responsibility of wastewater utility managers. Guided by a strategic plan for asset management, the Henrico County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) has executed a variety of projects designed to fundamentally change its stewardship of over 1 billion worth of assets. Moreover, the strategic plan created a framework for continuous improvement in DPU's asset management practices.This presentation will address how strategic planning, technology, and business process improvement has been applied for:Educating staff in asset management best practicesIdentifying business process improvementsCreating an asset registry that supports maintenance management, modeling, customer service, document management, process control, laboratory, and operational reportingEnhancing plant maintenance management practicesIncreasing mobile worker productivityInitiating an asset replacement modelDesigning a framework for funding future asset replacement needs.
