Implementation and Operating Data from the US's First Commercial Nutrient Recovery Plant
Abstract
The first commercial struvite recovery facility in the USA was built at Clean Water Services' Durham AWWTP in Tigard Oregon. The system uses three of Ostara's Pearl 500 nutrient recovery systems, with a design capacity of 120,000 GPD of centrate at 400 mg/L PO4-P. The plant was commissioned and brought online in late April 2009, and appears to be having an immediate impact on the biological phosphorus removal process in terms of reduced effluent phosphate levels. Ongoing monitoring of the struvite recovery plant and its impact on the EBPR and nitrification processes at the plant are ongoing and will be reported in the coming year.
