The Pressure is On – Enforceable Odor Limits
Abstract
The design, implementation and validation of the odor control installation servicing the wastewater treatment plant at a Nestle Purina pet food manufacturing facility is discussed. Strict performance criteria had been established by the facility owner and included a Not-to-Exceed odor concentration threshold at the exhaust stack and a required uptime during which the threshold odor concentrations could not be exceeded. Together, both criteria govern not only the nominal efficiency of odor reduction during normal operation but also the odor removal requirements during shutdowns for planned and emergency maintenance activities.
