EISI Upgrades Wastewater Treatment Plant at Atlantic Beef Products to First Membrane Bioreactor in Prince Edward Island
Abstract
A significant upgrade to the wastewater treatment plant at the Atlantic Beef Products processing plant in Albany, PE, Canada was conducted to solve a number of process issues. To improve effluent quality from the existing SBR, flat-plate membrane cassettes were installed into an existing solids thickening tank to convert the biological process to an MBR system. The waste solids thickening process was also improved; a novel concept of using a flat-plate membrane cassette to achieve solids thickening was implemented, and waste solids storage volume was increased by repurposing existing tankage. These improvements increased the performance, efficiency, and treatment capacity of the wastewater plant, which permitted Atlantic Beef to increase production and process tripe.
