Rising to the Challenge of Rising Waters: City of Coral Gables Resilience Measures for Flood Proofing Critical Wastewater Infrastructure
Abstract
The City of Coral Gables (City) is located along the eastern coast of South Florida, which is an area that has experienced increased vulnerability to flooding. In order to harden the pump station infrastructure to meet flooding needs as well as satisfy regulatory requirements, the City has assessed various mitigation measures. These include self-lifting structures, submersible electrical panels, flood panels, temporary flood barriers, watertight hatches, and flood walls. This study provides a summary of these resilience technologies and uses Pump Station Journey’s End to showcase how to assess and incorporate the resilience measures best suited for each pump station on a case-by-case basis.
