Achieving Carbon Neutrality at the Largest Fluidized Bed Biosolids Gasification Facility in the World
Abstract
Aries Clean Technologies (Aries) is a gasification technology provider and patent holder that uses its gasification systems to dispose of waste. Aries retained Stantec to quantify annual Scope 1, 2, and 3 operational greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for their existing and potential future (Generation 2) biosolids gasification facilities as a step to achieving their goal of a carbon neutral biosolids gasification facility. These facilities feature extensive heat recovery, electricity generation, and emissions control systems, necessitating the use of multiple calculation sources and a unique inventory approach to ensure accuracy and to avoid double-counting of emissions.
This paper was presented at the WEF Residuals & Biosolids and Innovations in Treatment Technology Joint Conference, May 6-9, 2025.
