Description: Mass Transfer and Mixing in Wastewater Treatment Biofilms
Mass Transfer and Mixing in Wastewater Treatment Biofilms
Abstract
Mass transfer in microbial biofilms is central to the performance of many biological wastewater treatment unit processes, but complexity associated with non-homogenous and geometrically irregular biofilms, and complicated fluid dynamics associated with mobile, channelized media create challenges to predictive modeling. This paper reviews recent studies addressing these challenges and discusses future research directions and opportunities.
