Description: EWS:AOx™ as Next Generation Leachate Treatment Technology.
EWS:AOx™ as Next Generation Leachate Treatment Technology.
Abstract
Landfill leachate treatment poses one of the greatest challenges to water engineers. Conventional leachate treatment lacks continuing operational and economic efficiency to make treatment an economically viable solution for many landfill managers. Since each leachate from different locations has distinctive characteristics, a specialized treatment to improve the contaminant removal efficiency needs to be sought. This paper focuses on OriginClear’s treatment of landfill leachate from rural China and USA. A pilot plant study was done in China to give a proof of concept. A lab-scale study was completed to find out the effectiveness of the standalone OriginClear two-stage technology on the treatment of leachate from USA site. Pilot scale testing in China gave a removal of 74.77% COD and 70.04% Ammonia nitrogen while lab scale treatment of US leachate with OriginClear two stage standalone process, a removal of 58.63% COD and 100% ammonia nitrogen was achieved. Estimated cost to treat one cubic meter of water by OriginClear technology, based on the pilot study in China, is in the range of $1.27 - $7.83.
