Leveraging Your Employees' Values to Retain Staff and Develop Leaders
Abstract
The stumbling economy has had a widespread impact on engineers who work on infrastructure projects and their firms. Companies are having to do more with less, and staff are often forced to bear the brunt of cutbacks and changes to corporate culture. As a result, job satisfaction is at an historic low, and many are looking to move on to new positions in new organizations. Many companies find themselves in the dangerous position of having to retain talented staff, but not necessarily having the resources to do so--or knowing how to do so. As the economy picks up, this situation will just get worse, as firms will have to compete with resurgent competitors to hold onto their own firm stars and attract new talent. Firms need to recognize the factors that are causing workforce instability, and create more stable and productive workplaces.
