You Can Model That? Modeling a Large Sanitary Sewer System with Thousands of Grinder Pumps
Abstract
Many municipalities enter into Consent Administrative Orders to eliminate sanitary sewer overflows. For this purpose, hydraulic modeling is traditionally utilized to simulate the system and to predict overflow removal. This project required construction of a large, complex hydraulic model composed of 33% pressurized sewer and 66% gravity sewer. The process developed during this project shows that this type of system can be modeled accurately and used for developing advanced and creative capital improvement plans focused on improving the actual system deficiencies while exceeding client expectations.
