An Impact of Iron on the Digestion Efficiencies and Odor Generation of Multi-Stage Anaerobic Digestion System
Abstract
Iron addition to the feed sludge of the mesophilic anaerobic digester was reported to improve solids reduction efficiency and reduce odor generation from dewatered biosolids in accordance with Water Environment Research Federation (WERF) odor study (Novak and Park, 2010). Iron addition to the feed sludge of the 4 stage anaerobic digestion system with tapered temperature configuration (4ADT+Iron) also resulted in greater volatile solids destruction and less odorous dewatered biosolids compared to the system without iron addition (4ADT).
