Sale of Surplus Renewable Energy Generated at a Wastewater Treatment Plant
Abstract
The East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD) main wastewater treatment plant (MWWTP) is a net renewable energy generator with surplus power available for sale. This paper describes the institutional and contractual arrangements for the sale of surplus renewable energy from EBMUD's MWWTP and how it comports with current California state regulations and markets. Alternative power sales arrangements that were considered, and their relative advantages/disadvantages, are also described and discussed.
