Description: Novel BioElectro™ Process for Sterilization of Biosolids
Novel BioElectro™ Process for Sterilization of Biosolids
Abstract
Sterilization, pasteurization and disinfection of biosolids by novel BioElectro™ Process is shown. The process is based on applying, enhanced by conditioners, DC field to biosolids. The reduction of Clostridium perfringens spores by 8 log was demonstrated within less than two hours while 3 log reduction was reached within less an hour. It was concluded that presence of unionized ammonia molecule along with the elevated temperature generated due to exothermic reaction within the system may sterilize biosolids. Also, an empirical model was developed by non-linear programming approach to quantify disinfection kinetics of process. The proposed model was able to predict the spore inactivation very accurately. The new process is ready to be applied into full scale facilities.
