Optimizing Capital Program Management
Abstract
As Utility managers know, the challenges of managing a large capital driven program can be numerous and can include:• Capturing and tracking of project information through the project lifecycle• Accessing up-to-date information• Coordination across departments• Standardizing work processes• Working with Contractors – always a “unique” challenge• Minimizing delays and controlling costsTo help address these challenges, the City of Fort Wayne utilizes a Project Management Information System (PMIS), designed to help City Utilities manage the full project lifecycle. This resulted in program and project cost savings and reduced turnaround times on some construction documents by more than 50%.
As Utility managers know, the challenges of managing a large capital driven program can be numerous and can include:
