What is the Best Arrangement for Implementing THP (Thermal Hydrolysis Process) on my Sludge Treatment Facilities?
Abstract
The combination of thermal hydrolysis of concentrated sludge followed by anaerobic digestion is a proven solution with many references worldwide. However, depending on the requirements of the water utility and/or the local situation, other combinations such as anaerobic digestion and thermal hydrolysis on the recycling loop, or anaerobic digestion followed by thermal hydrolysis followed by anaerobic digestion have many advantages and are being implemented in the market. This paper will present the different THP arrangements available, LD (for Lysis & Digestion), DL (for Digestion & Lysis) and DLD (Digestion & Lysis & Digestion), and will describe how to make the choice among these solutions, depending on the existing sludge treatment facilities. Each THP arrangement will be illustrated by success stories.
