Starting, Operating and Verifying the Performance of Cannibal® Solids Reduction Technology at Oak Lodge Sanitary District
Abstract
Implementation of the Cannibal® Solids Reduction at the Oak Lodge Water Reclamation Facility required a structured approach to startup, extensive training of staff and major changes to data collection and analysis procedures. While these efforts were specifically intended to meet contractual requirements specific to the Cannibal® process, they have provided real and tangible benefit for the Oak Lodge Sanitary District. Reduction in biosolids hauled has been observed, as compared to the amount of biosolids produced at the facility prior to the improvements. This is a function of the physical removal of material by the Mixed Liquor Screen and a reduction in biological yield, which is a function of the interface between the activated sludge system and interchange bioreactors. The approach to startup to system startup and results are reviewed.
