CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL PROCESSES ASSOCIATED WITH MASS TRANSFER IN ODOR CONTROL SCRUBBERS
Abstract
This paper is a basic primer on fundamental chemical and physical processes that occur in packed tower and misting scrubbers that are used for odor control. Chemical and physical properties of odorous compounds are examined and related to the performance of packed tower and misting scrubbers. Chemical reactions that occur inside the scrubbers are also examined and state-of-the-art information is presented on improving the performance of these scrubber systems. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of the two types of scrubbers are presented based on the chemical and physical processes that occur in these scrubber systems.
