SELECTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF COMPUTERIZED MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AT PASSAIC VALLEY SEWERAGE COMMISSIONERS
Abstract
Passaic Valley Sewerage Commissioners (PVSC) own and operate the fifth largest wastewater treatment plant in the United States. Located in the heavily industrialized area of northern New Jersey, the PVSC plant is one of the largest and most modern in the world. It services the wastewater needs of some 5,000 commercial and industrial users located within 47 communities in Essex, Hudson, Bergen and Passaic counties with a total population of about 1.3 million. EMA Services, Inc. (EMA) of St. Paul, MN assisted the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commissioners (PVSC) in selecting and implementing a new Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). This was one phase of an overall Administration Data Processing Upgrade Project (ADPUP) that PVSC had embarked on to upgrade its technology solutions and hardware/networking infrastructure. The CMMS project included identifying needs and developing maintenance practices, process workflows, selecting the software package, recommending hardware, providing coordination and vendor oversight during implementation, data migration, interfaces development and system testing based on specific plans and procedures. Synergen Associates, Inc. of Walnut Creek, CA was selected as the CMMS vendor. The Synergen Series integrated technology solution was successfully implemented in October 1999. The integrated system is currently operational and is continuing to be developed. In addition, the maintenance practices are being reviewed and modified in line with Best Practices concepts. The CMMS's configuration is being updated on an ongoing basis to fit revised practices and business needs of the company.
