SALES AND MARKETING OF N-VIRO SOIL, AN EQ ALKALINE STABILIZED BIOSOLIDS PRODUCT
Abstract
N-Viro Soil (NVS) is the trademark name for the EQ alkaline stabilized biosolids produced in the patented N-Viro process. This product is unique in the biosolids market as the only one that utilizes mineral byproducts in the process. NVS is a dry (50 –65% solids), granular product with soil-like physical characteristics. It has significant liming value (20 – 60% acid neutralizing capacity), is a low analysis fertilizer (approximately 1-1-1), contains significant amounts of essential trace nutrients, especially S, and contains about 25% organic matter. Its range of characteristics is such that NVS can be used as an agricultural limestone and gypsum substitute, a low analysis fertilizer, and as a soil substitute. Aged long enough to lower pH, blended with other soil or with other byproducts, NVS can be used as a general landscaping soil and for landfill cover. It is also ideal for land reclamation. Since 1989, more than 7 million tons of NVS have been produced. This paper discusses sales and marketing strategies, successes and challenges at more than 40 facilities in the U.S., Canada and other countries.
