PERMITTING OF A LARGE SEPTAGE LAND APPLICATION SITE; LESSONS LEARNED

Proper management of septage is a major issue nationwide as well as in the state of Washington. The vast majority of septage haulers are single truck operations which do not have the resources or knowledge to obtain a permit under the statewide general permit for biosolids management. Therefore, larger septage operations maintaining modern permitted septage land application sites provide a viable alternative for the management of septage. These larger permitted facilities will typically receive domestic septage from small haulers on a fee-for-service basis. This paper describes experience gained in permitting a large septage land application site.
