BEST MAINTENANCE PRACTICES IN WASTEWATER TREATMENT FACILITY MANAGEMENT
Abstract
This information-packed seminar is oriented toward the manager of engineering, maintenance or operations, and maintenance group supervisors of municipal wastewater treatment facilities. It provides a wealth of facts and statistics that define “Best Maintenance Practices” (BMP) in terms of wastewater facility systems and equipment reliability. The seminar stresses the need for moving from a reactive maintenance approach to a proactive maintenance approach – an entirely different thought process – in order to implement BMP ways of thinking. Managing facility systems and equipment reliability in order to achieve environmental goals instead of managing chemistry to make-up for unreliable systems and equipment is the goal.The seminar discusses how to organize, manage and train for an efficient and effective maintenance program that maximizes its contribution to reliability and reduces maintenance costs below national averages. The seminar also introduces management to “Best Maintenance Practices” (BMP) through discussion of individual elements and statistically identifies how facilities today are failing to achieve Best Maintenance Practice criteria. The structures of ‘traditional’ maintenance and a ‘planned/scheduled’ preventive maintenance program are defined and compared and then tied back to BMP criteria.The seminar moves on to the specifics of the wastewater treatment facility's transition to a planned and scheduled Maintenance Program, one which will provide the direction necessary for incorporating and achieving Best Maintenance Practice criteria. Specifics of work order structure and usage, proactive verses reactive maintenance and the elements of preventive maintenance are provided in step-by-step fashion. The role of maintenance planning and scheduling, and its essential nature regarding Best Maintenance Practices, based on actual experiences, are reviewed and their importance emphasized.
