HYPERION TREATMENT PLANT ADVANCED DIGESTION PILOT PROGRAM
Abstract
The City of Los Angeles has been pilot testing advanced biosolids processing scenarios since June 2000. The purpose of this pilot testing was to investigate various digestion configurations, which would produce Class A biosolids as outlined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 40 Part 503 regulations. The pilot program began with the review of the many different digestion scenarios currently in use and the selection of those most viable for pilot testing. The objective of this program was to study alternative digestion technologies on a pilot scale with the goal of providing data for future decision making relative to the digesters at Hyperion. Also, with the current Class A problem, another objective was added, that being to provide data to support Class A decisions at Hyperion.
