CASE STUDIES OF LOW-RATE ANAEROBIC TREATMENT OF DAIRY PROCESSING WASTEWATERS
Abstract
There are presently a dozen applications of the patented+ ADI-BVF® reactor treating wastewaters from dairy and cheese processing facilities. ADI defines its BVF reactor® as a lowrate anaerobic upflow sludge bed process. Low-rate anaerobic technology overcomes the obstacles and challenges posed on high-rate anaerobic processes as a result of the high concentrations of fat, oil, and grease (FOG) and TSS typically present in these dairy processing wastewaters. This paper summarizes case studies of six BVF reactor applications treating dairy processing wastewaters. Each system is briefly described, complete with flow diagram, design parameters, and operating data.
