PROTOCOLS TO EVALUATE SECONDARY CLARIFIER PERFORMANCE

Abstract

INTRODUCTIONIn 2001, the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) published a protocol for evaluating activated sludge secondary clarifier performance (Wahlberg, 2001). That publication, as explained below, was the culmination of a project that was started by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and picked up by the American Society of Civil Engineers' Clarifier Research Technical Committee (CRTC). The current paper draws extensively from the WERF report, which included comments from a workshop of nearly 90 participants sponsored by WERF.
