SEWER SYSTEM REHABILITATION GUIDELINES – MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK
Abstract
The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (S&WB) manages the City of New Orleans' sanitary sewage collection and transmission system which is over 100 years old and serves a population of approximately 500,000 people. The system has to overcome a number of unique topographic, hydraulic and environmental conditions such as flat terrain and a high ground water table. Understanding these conditions provided a clearer picture of the system's capabilities and limitations, which was needed to develop appropriate sewer system rehabilitation guidelines. In this paper, the authors will present the methodology and guidelines utilized to implement a multi million dollar sewer rehabilitation program and will engage the audience in the costeffectiveness and application of the rehabilitation methods.
