DISINFECTION: MEETING MULTIPLE GOALS

Abstract

The San Antonio Water System (SAWS) is committed to becoming the “best utility” by 2006 by consistently exceeding all discharge permit requirements, and by supplying high quality effluent water to customers which exceeds state recycled water requirements every day. This study was performed to assist SAWS with meeting that goal at the Dos Rios Water Recycling Center (WRC), and by extension meeting the goals of the recycled water system to be supplied by the Dos Rios WRC to the rest of the SAWS service area. This studies' purpose was to evaluate alternative disinfection systems to the existing gas chlorine and gas sulfur dioxide system for the Dos Rios WRC – considering the multiple needs at the facility for disinfection, and to recommend systems for long term use.
