INDUSTRIAL PROCESS WASTEWATER PRETREATMENT TECHNOLOGY SELECTION FOR HIGH BOD WASTEWATER FROM SOFT DRINK SYRUP MANUFACTURING
Abstract
The soft drink syrup plant (Facility) that is the subject of this paper manufactures syrup for fountain soft drink applications. Operations at the Facility consist of receiving and processing food-grade raw materials to manufacture beverage syrups, which are then packaged and shipped to restaurant distribution centers, as well as various bottling and canning plants in the area for final beverage preparation. The facility produces approximately 26.4 million gallons of effluent (an average daily flow rate of 72,300 gallons per day). The Facility also collects residual syrup from returned containers. Residual syrup is handled separately from process wastewater and sent off site for recycling.
