INTEGRATING ANAEROBIC DIGESTION INTO PLANT-WIDE WASTEWATER TREATMENT MODELING
Abstract
This paper discusses a new anaerobic digestion model (MantisAD) and its application into a large wastewater treatment facility process model incorporating four primary anaerobic digesters. This new anaerobic digestion unit process model has been developed specifically with incorporation into plant-wide models in mind. That is, this new model has a number of state variables that make interfacing anaerobic and aerobic process models much easier, resulting in less chance of mass balance irregularities at the anaerobic/aerobic and aerobic/anaerobic interfaces. The model is complete and initial success with the model has been achieved. A comparison of the results obtained with the MantisAD model and with ADM1 is presented in this paper.
