OZONATION OF REACTIVE BLUE 19 DYE IN AN IN SITU OZONE GENERATOR AND REACTOR SYSTEM
Abstract
Ozonation of dye Reactive Blue 19 wastewater was conducted using an in situ ozone generator and reactor system. In this reactor system, corona discharge is made at the gas liquid interface inside a porous barrier that separates the generator from the tubular reactor. The generated ozone from the outer generator diffuses through this porous barrier and reacts with the contaminants in the fluid that is being treated inside the reactor. Oxidation studies indicate that feed gas flow rate, and ozone concentration, pH, and initial dye concentration affects the kinetics of dye decolorization. Fast kinetic regime observed for dye oxidation followed by intermediate regime for the reaction of ozone with the byproducts. The specific power consumption for ozonation of wastewater in in situ reactor is significantly lower than that for conventional ozonators. High mass transfer and low power consumption for this reactor system makes it an efficient and costeffective reactor for ozonation process.
