FEASIBILITY OF MICRO FILTRATION FOR RESIDUALS MANAGEMENT AT WATER TREATMENT PLANTS
Abstract
Two MF alternatives (immersible MF and pressurized MF systems) were investigated as possible alternatives along with conventional treatment for the residuals treatment facility at the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) Lake Huron WTP.The residuals treatment facilities were designed for a maximum flow of 12 mgd (during summer) and 6 mgd (during winter). The permeate from the MF system could be sent either to the plant head works or to the finished water clearwell. The immersible MF system was designed for 90 percent recovery at a loading rate of 24 gfd (with three 4-mgd trains and a fourth train as spare). The pressurized MF system was designed for a loading rate of 25 gfd and included pre-sedimentation to minimize the solids concentration in the feed water. Conceptual capital costs and annual O&M costs were developed for all three alternatives.
