DATA MANAGEMENT – THE KEY TO WATER/SEWER/STORM UTILITY SUCCESS
Abstract
Theme: As asset managers, we recognize that better information is the key to effectively managing our collections systems. We are awash in data – In a typical organization, sewer data might be stored in ten or more places, including: CAD Drawings, Sewer TV records, inspection reports, maintenance history, construction records, flow monitoring results, hydraulic models, customer data, SCADA history, and GIS mapping. However, this data is so difficult to access that it is not usable for effective decision making. The key to effective management of infrastructure assets is the development of a data warehouse in which all of this information can be hosted and accessed through a common user interface. Technical Content: This presentation discusses the development and deployment of a GIS-centric data warehouse for infrastructure information. This presentation also discusses the challenges and benefits of this new way of maintaining the information.
