The First-Year Operational Experiences of Chen Chin Lake Advanced Water Treatment Plant
Abstract
The quality of drinking water supplied by Chen Chin Lake Water Treatment Plant had been complained by the consumers for many years due to the hardness and the taste and odor problems. In October, 2002, Taiwan Water Corporation (TWC) started to upgrade this plant to an advanced one with the application of ozonation, crystallization, and biological activated carbon techniques. After the construction of the upgrading facilities was completed, this “advanced” water treatment plant was then operated continuously. The water quality of this upgrading plant during its first-year operational period was analyzed and evaluated in this study. The results showed that this advanced water treatment plant could stably supply high quality of drinking water, which could always comply with the new drinking water standards in Taiwan. During the first-year operational period, the averages of total hardness, trihalomethanes (TTHMs), halloacetic acids (HAA5), and available organic carbon (AOC) in the clear water of this plant were always below 133 mg/L (as CaCO3), 5.15 μg/L, 18.06 μg/L, and 17.8 μg/L, respectively, and these values were all below current standards of drinking water, which were 150 mg/L (as CaCO3), 40μg/L, 30μg/L, 50μg/L, respectively.
