The Corrosion Protection in Sewage Systems in Japan
Abstract
The purpose of presenting this paper is to report summarizing a content of what has been going on with anti-corrosion works for sewage systems in Japan. The sewage systems can be divided mainly into the two categories, waste water treatments and sewer/conduit pipe systems. For these two categories, anti-corrosion LINING technologies and processes have been developed in many ways, from traditional “Hand Lay Up” to current “CIPP processes”.The anti-corrosion problem today comes, as well-known worldwide, from strong sulfuric acid attack against cement concrete structures in sewage systems. To protect them from the problem, many kinds of materials and processes have been proposed and some of them have been applied seemingly successfully. The sewerage systems are one of our social properties and how to keep their service lives longer (hopefully, more than ten years), while sulfuric acid problem becomes the more keen issue by years. This must be one of our common concerns nowadays, and, if we could develop to establish some international standards and specifications for longer service life anti-corrosion performance guaranteeable in quality, it will be significant in our field. In terms of this, the authors are describing how to find the better solution to fulfill the requirement, discussing some case studies.
