National Emergency Response: NIMS Compliance and the Incident Command System – What Does a Water or Wastewater Utility Need to Know and Do? Designing and Implementing Mutual Aid and Assistance Networks: the WARN Projects

Water and wastewater systems face serious threats from a variety of natural disasters and human-caused events that can overwhelm an individual system or multiple systems within a locality or state. Additionally, all agencies involved in a response are being asked to become NIMS compliant and to implement the Incident Command System. In response, utilities and water sector partners have united to create Water and Wastewater Agency Response Networks (WARN) that enable expedited identification and sharing of resources among participating utilities.
