IMPACT OF THE RISK MANAGEMENT CODES OF PRACTICE ON MAJOR TUNNEL PROGRAMS IN THE US
Abstract
This paper discusses the impact of the Codes of Practice for Risk Management of Tunnel Work (the Codes) on tunnel projects in the US. The paper begins with a discussion on how the Codes came about and how they should be applied to enhance both risk analysis and the management of risk on these major infrastructure projects. The format and use of a risk register as the primary tool of risk analysis and management is discussed and two specific project examples are provided that show the use of risk registers in both planning and design and for both qualitative and quantitative analysis.
