Texans Do It in a Big Way: Enhanced Maintenance of Collection System in Austin, Texas
Abstract
For a number of years, Austin Water Utility of the City of Austin, Texas has faced a challenge of improving and implementing its collection system maintenance program. Austin is required to address and eliminate the sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) from its collection system on a short schedule to meet a regulatory mandate. The regulatory mandate requires the Utility to correct overflows and reduce infiltration and inflow into the collection system. In addition to identifying and correcting system deficiencies, the Utility has adopted to implement the Capacity Management Operation and Maintenance (CMOM) program. This paper presents Austin's enhanced collection system maintenance program and its details. The presentation will include maintenance programs implemented, and will provide data on results of the improved collection system performance.
