Abstract
The effect of power fluctuations on the operation of a UV disinfection system was investigated. A medium-pressure UV system with electromagnetic ballast circuitry was subjected to instantaneous, sustained and repeated reductions in the supply line voltage of greater than 40% from nominal. The power to the lamp and lamp output were monitored to determine the impact of these fluctuations on the ability of the system to disinfect water.
