Disinfection Battle Stadium – Battle of the In-Tube Non-Contact UV Disinfection System versus Open Channel UV Disinfection Systems in the State of Washington
Abstract
The City of Mount Vernon wastewater treatment plant will be upgraded in 2007. Currently under the bidding phase, the design contract includes upgrading the existing chlorine disinfection system to UV disinfection. Initially, the open channel style UV disinfection system was proposed. However, the favorable results of a pilot testing of the in-tube non-contact UV disinfection system in a nearby city caused the City of Mount Vernon to look into such system as an alternative. This paper summarizes the design process and compares the different features between the two different styles of UV disinfection system.
