A Tale of Three Cities: Retrofitting Surface Water Drainage Systems with Submersible Pump Stations
Abstract
Maintaining water quality is a challenge faced by municipalities and developers alike, and stormwater is at the center of the battle. Urban runoff has been identified as a significant polluter of surface waters, and as populations grow and development continues, the management of stormwater will continue to take center stage.As the effective management of stormwater assumes more and more importance, the retrofitting of existing infrastructure becomes critical. Stormwater retrofit programs are essential to correct existing situations and to effectively manage stormwater. Innovative solutions abound, some of which include the use of pump stations to solve a wide range of site problems related to stormwater in a variety of applications, municipal infrastructure to industrial site remediation.This paper examines three real-life examples of how municipalities and other entities have retrofitted existing infrastructure by using integrating pump stations into their stormwater management projects.
