GIS-Based Tools for Wastewater Flow Forecasting and Hydraulic Modeling Support Sewer Strategic Planning
Abstract
Anne Arundel County Maryland has developed a Wastewater Strategic Plan. The first phase of that effort looked at expansion and upgrade requirements and constraints at six Wastewater Reclamation Facilities (WRFs). In the second phase, the County developed a Comprehensive Sewer Strategic Plan (CSSP), which includes developing wastewater flow forecasts, developing capacity evaluations, evaluating infrastructure needs for collection systems, and developing a long-term capital improvement program. This paper reviews GIS-based wastewater flow forecasting tools and SewerCAD hydraulic modeling tools developed and applied for this CSSP effort. In addition, it summarizes capital improvement program (CIP) prioritization tools and results that balance wastewater treatment, conveyance expansion and rehabilitation and repair projects in the County's projected 363 million CIP in 6 sewer service areas.
