Bello Wastewater Treatment Plant
Abstract
The Bello WWTP is part of the Medellin River Clean Up Program, conceived by Greeley and Hansen and Compania Colombiana de Consultores, and developed by Empresas Publicas de Medellin (EPM) since the 80s. Average design flow of the plant is 5.0 m3/s and it is an activated sludge plant. Design was completed last February by the Consortium “Hidroestacion Torre del Aburra” (HTA), formed by Pöyry Environment GmbH and HMV Ingenieros Ltda. The design took into account the German practice and the experience of EPM in the operation of the San Fernando WWTP, which is in operation since 2000, and is also an activated sludge plant, receiving about 20% of the wastewater generated in the metropolitan area.
