Development of a Resource Typing Manual for Water Sector Mutual Aid and Assistance
Abstract
A manual of resource typing standards for the water sector has recently been completed. The team of URS and The Horsley Witten Group was retained by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) to develop this manual, referred to as the “Resource Typing Manual for Water Sector Mutual Aid and Assistance”, generally referred to in this paper as, “the Manual”. The Manual includes resource types for the water sector, in order to provide standardized terminology and resource packaging to facilitate mutual aid and assistance and other resource sharing in the water and wastewater industry. The project was funded by AWWA with Water Industry Technical Action Funds (WITAF) as WITAF Project #508. This paper provides an overview of water sector mutual aid, the need for resource typing, the Manual development project and the Manual itself.
